On October 19, the EMA Days 2024 webinar 'Meet Them in Person: Humans of Erasmus Mundus' featured five inspiring contributors to the Humans of Erasmus Mundus (HoEM) photo blog. Kawtar Bouassel (MEDfOR), Jane Nduta Wambura (KITE), Bishwajit Roy (MEDfOR), Shahin S Eity (SMACCs), and Amna Aman (MEDfOR) shared their diverse and impactful Erasmus Mundus journeys. The meeting highlighted their Erasmus Mundus journeys, covering perseverance, cultural adaptation, academic resilience, and personal growth, moderated by Kisa Fatima, the Humans of Erasmus Mundus lead.

The discussion followed four segments: motivations for applying to Erasmus Mundus, the impact of cultural exchange, academic challenges and milestones, and life after the programme. Each segment evidenced the rich and diverse perspectives Erasmus Mundus students bring to their fields and communities.
Kawtar Bouassel shared how learning to communicate directly and clearly helped her adapt to Europe. Jane Nduta Wambura reflected on her perseverance and commitment to keep applying for Erasmus Mundus until she succeeded, emphasizing it as one of her best decisions. Bishwajit Roy noted his transformation in becoming more outgoing and balancing study with social life.
At the same time, Shahin S Eity observed that cultural differences, though apparent, are underpinned by a universal "language of humanity." Amna Aman humorously recalled how her view of European cuisine as “bland” changed after experiencing Italian seasonings that elevated the flavours.
This webinar offered future Erasmus Mundus students practical tips and motivation, highlighting how the Humans of Erasmus Mundus initiative continues to unite alumni in sharing invaluable global experiences and inspiring journeys.
