On November 6, the University of British Columbia (UBC) Career Centre, in collaboration with the Erasmus Mundus Association (EMA), hosted an insightful information session on Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters (EMJM) programmes at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver. The session targeted prospective students at UBC and focused on EMJM opportunities and the application process for this prestigious European programme.
Global Outreach
The event was part of Rajon Bhuiyan's global outreach efforts through the Outreach and Capacity Building (OCB) Unit, aiming to bring Erasmus Mundus closer to students worldwide, especially in target regions like North America. As the driving force behind the initiative, he set the stage for UBC students to explore a unique academic journey offered by Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters, involving multiple countries, universities, and an array of academic fields.
Introducing Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters and the Application Process
Md Mahamudul Hasan Mredul, a PhD student at UBC and newsletter editor at EMA, kicked off the session by presenting an overview of the Erasmus Mundus consortium. He broke down the application process, providing guidance on the required documentation and timeline. With Mredul's insights, attendees gained a strong understanding of how to prepare their applications for Erasmus Mundus programmes.
Spotlight on the iPSRS Master's Program
Mr Bhuiyan, Director of Outreach & Capacity Building at the Erasmus Mundus Student and Alumni Association, followed up with an engaging presentation on his own experiences with the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s (EMJM) Degree. He captivated the audience by emphasizing the unique benefits of Erasmus Mundus, such as the opportunity for mobility across partner institutions and the chance to earn joint degrees from different EU universities. Rajon offered a deep dive into the Intelligent Photonics for Security, Reliability, Sustainability, and Safety (iPSRS) programme, sharing insights into its application process and various aspects of the curriculum, as an example of EMJM.
Interactive Engagement and Fun Games
To keep the session dynamic, Rajon and Mredul organized an interactive game. Participants were invited to share their research interests, and the speakers explored relevant Erasmus Mundus programmes within the EMJM catalogue, giving students a mini-tour of specific programs' websites. This activity not only personalized the session but also helped students envision how their academic pursuits might align with different Erasmus Mundus offerings.
Closing Q&A and New Connections
The session wrapped up with a lively Q&A, where attendees inquired about scholarships, self-funded opportunities, and research or internship possibilities for the fourth semester. This closing segment provided valuable information for students looking to fully understand the scope and benefits of Erasmus Mundus.
Through this event, the Erasmus Mundus Student and Alumni Association has successfully established a communication network with prospective students at UBC, inspiring them to explore the incredible opportunities that Erasmus Mundus programmes offer across the Atlantic Ocean in Europe and beyond.
